Augusta Pride organizers preparing for Pride week with changes

AUGUSTA, Ga (WJBF)- June is pride month and Augusta Pride is hard at work preparing for this year’s events. People can expect all of their favorite events like ‘Beats on Broad,’ and the Pride Parade and Festival.

People can expect the usual fun, but there are a couple of changes to expect as well.

They are changing how beer will be sold at ‘Beats on Broad’ and during the festival. People will have to buy beer tickets instead of purchasing one on one from the vendor.

The biggest change is to the parade route- because of construction on Broad Street.

“With the Broad Street construction happening, we will take place on Green Street. The parade will start at Green and seventh and then make its way down to ninth. So we’re actually working our way up Green Street. After the parade, everyone can make their way to the Augusta Commons, as usual, to the festival on Saturday,” explained Michael Barnard, Augusta Pride President.

Otherwise, people can expect all the great food, vendors and entertainment they are used to.

“‘Beats on Broad,’ we are action packed this year. We have a lot of performers. We have “Q” from this season’s ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race.’ We have Madison Rose, MKX, Daya Carter, as well as some of our local entertainers hitting the stage on Friday night. So, it’s going to be a very fun night for ‘Beats on Broad.'” said Barnard.

Pride Week will start off with the President’s Soiree on June 20. Beats on Broad will be on June 21 starting at 6 p.m. at the Augusta Common. On June 22, the Pride Parade kicks off at 10 a.m. followed by the Pride Festival at 11 a.m., also at the Common.
