Aussie Surf Champion Mark Richardson Faces Health Emergency in Bali (Update)
Mark Richardson remains in trouble in Bali.
As reported previously, the 4x Australian Surfing Champion, and one-time coach to heavy-hitter competitors like Joel Parkinson and Courtney Conlogue, has been hospitalized in Indonesia, requesting blood donations for a dire medical emergency.
Now, family and friends have an update; and they’re rallying to get Richo back to Australia, where he can get the medical attention he needs.
Per a GoFundMe account:
“Mark has been experiencing severe upper gastrointestinal hemorrhaging with inflammation of the intestine. As in critical condition the Bali medical team have found it too risky to do any further invasive diagnostic procedures.
“So to do this, we need him home.
“We are liaising with the medical team in Australia and now independent medical assessor’s in Bali.”
As it seems, the conundrum of the situation revolves around getting Richo the proper blood type (A negative), so that he can be safely transported from Bali to Australia.
The GoFundMe continues:
“Unfortunately, he has only received a few bags of the donations for unknown reasons beyond our control. Additionally Mark’s hemoglobin levels are critically low and have continued to decrease.
“In order for medical evacuation we need to get his hemoglobin levels to 8 or more to legally have a medical evacuation back to Australia (Darwin or Gold Coast).
“This will supplement to a level deemed safe to hopefully enable an emergency exit from Bali asap. So then he can receive the diagnostic testing and treatment and blood transfusions he requires here in Australia.”
To support, check out the GoFundMe page; and here’s to a safe and speedy recovery for the Aussie surf legend.
