Austin Butler Looks Unrecognizable for 'Dune: Part Two'

After embodying Elvis Presley for Baz Lurhmann's film, Austin Butler has fully transformed himself for another role.

On Tuesday, a photo of Butler as villain Feyd-Rautha from Denis Villeneuve's Dune: Part Two was revealed, showing the Oscar nominee completely bald. His dome is smooth and his face is devoid of any hair—including his eyebrows.

It's a very stylistically different approach from the one Sting took for David Lynch's 1984 adaptation of the Frank Herbert novel. In that version, Sting's hair was a strawberry blond hue, styled upwards as if it were bedhead.

While interviewed at the Met Gala red carpet by Variety, Lurhmann shared his reaction to seeing Butler's drastic look. "What I thought was 'terrifying.' What I also thought was [that it was] so brave of him to take on such a radically different character from Elvis. It's a cleansing of the creative palate, I think," said the filmmaker.

Butler spoke about his role on the podcast Happy Sad Confused last December. Host Josh Horowitz asked the actor if he liked the look that he and Villeneuve arrived at for this iteration of the character. Butler's response? "I think it's gonna be…yeah, it's going to be great," Butler said at the time before bursting into laugher, trying his hardest not to spill the big reveal.

Villeneuve also teased details about the character in Vanity Fair's exclusive first look at the upcoming film, saying Feyd-Rautha is "someone Machiavellian, much more cruel, much more strategic and is more narcissistic."

Dune: Part Two hits theaters on November 3, 2023.
