Autry has released its latest sneaker, a fashionable update on running shoes popular in the 1980s.

Called the Reelwind, the sneaker’s upper features a sleek suede and nylon construction that pairs with an ultralight Phylon rubber sole. Part of the brand’s spring 2024 collection, the new sneaker model is available in five colorways: black, white, red, green and blue.

In a statement regarding the shoe’s debut, Autry CEO Mauro Grange was optimistic about the company’s future. “Autry’s journey over the past three years has been a testament to our unwavering commitment to growth and innovation,” Grange said. “The iconic Medalist [sneakers] have propelled us significantly in our growth, and we are now launching a new model that can be the second hero in our sneakers collection.”

Autry was originally founded in 1982 by Jim Autry in Dallas. The brand focused on tennis, running and aerobic style trainers, which quickly soared in popularity and became known as “the shoe with the American flag.”

In 2019, the shoe brand was relaunched internationally under the guidance of three Italian entrepreneurs in the sneaker and ready-to-wear segments. With a 2022 turnover of 90 million euros, the brand today is distributed in Europe, Asia and the U.S.

In 2021, the Made in Italy Fund, which is managed by Quadrivio and Pambianco and invests in wine, food, beauty, fashion and furniture, took a majority stake in Autry and footwear brand Ghoud. The fund has invested in 10 Italian companies, of which six are in fashion, from 120% Lino and Rosantica to Dondup and GCDS.

Autry’s new Reelwind sneaker was first celebrated earlier this fall with a dedicated pop-up shop in East London. The temporary store opened on Oct. 24 with an event featuring rapper Denzel Curry, who has collaborated with artists like Billie Eilish and Juicy J, and global music platform NTS Radio.

“This collaboration best expresses Autry’s connection to music and our intention to seek out new artistic voices that can embrace our brand values,” Grange added. “Through the power of music and collaboration with NTS, we aim to celebrate the new style while engaging with our community.”

The Reewind is the latest release from the revived sneaker company. In June, Autry debuted its new CLC sneakers as a part of the brand’s fall 2023 collection. The Autry CLC sneakers are described as the merger of the Medalist silhouette with an edgy court style shoe.

That same month, Autry released a collaborative update to its Medalist sneaker with Italian retailer 10 Corso Como.

The new Reelwind is now available for $195 at Autry-USA.com and select retailers worldwide.
