Avengers: The Kang Dynasty Loses Director
Jonathan Majors Kang MCU
The director signed up for Marvel’s Avengers: The Kang Dynasty has walked away from the project, according to a new report.
Deadline says the split is amicable, with director Destin Daniel Cretton remaining with Marvel to focus on his other projects - the sequel to Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and the TV show Wonder Man.
Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is scheduled for release in May 2026, with Avengers: Secret Wars scheduled for May 2027. However, there remains questions and rumours about the future of the Kang character and its inclusion in the future Marvel Cinematic Universe, following controversy around Kang actor Jonathan Majors.
Losing the director of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty may be another factor in the future direction of that particular story arc for the MCU.
Cretton’s Wonder Man project is another title under the Marvel Spotlight umbrella, which places Marvel heroes outside of the regular MCU. The upcoming series Echo, due for release early next year, is the first in the format that allows for individual stories focused on particular characters.
Earlier this week, Marvel announced that it has delayed the release of four movies - Deadpool, Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts and Blade. Its TV reboot of Daredevil: Born Again is also in the early stages, according to directors on the project.
