The Average Kitchen Remodel in 2019 Costs This Much
Thinking of renovating your kitchen this year? White kitchens, colorful kitchens, modern kitchens, classic kitchens, cottage-style kitchens, how's a gal ever to choose?
Well, before you dive into backsplashes and countertops, perhaps it's best to take a step back and think about your budget. In 2019, a kitchen remodel could set you back quite a bit. According to popular home wesbsite Houzz, kitchens "command the highest median spend in home remodels" — which amounts to $11,000 — based on their survey of 1,337 U.S. homeowners. For those undergoing a major remodel of a kitchen of 200+ square-feet, that figure shoots up to a whopping $33,000 for national median spend.

The survey also found that countertops were the most popular feature to replace during a kitchen redesign (93%), followed by all or some appliances (88% combined total), and backsplash (87%). Out of their survey respondents, 35% of homeowners enlarged their kitchen during the renovation process.
Other popular upgraded features include sinks (85%), faucets/plumbing fixtures (83%), light fixtures (80%), cabinets (78%), and flooring (69%). Built-in specialty storage for kitchen cabinets also were common with cookie/sheet/tray (54%), deep drawer (41%) and spice storage (38%) being the most popular cabinet upgrades.
