While it's definitely not too early to book your Christmas flights, many of you are probably still wrapping your minds around the beginning of fall let alone making your holiday travel plans just yet.

But once you do, you're going to want to keep this one tip in mind: Don't book a flight on December 26.

According to the experts at KAYAK, the fare aggregator and travel search site, it's the most expensive day of the entire year to fly domestically within the United States.

Since Christmas falls on a Monday this year, KAYAK also predicts that flight prices will surge the Wednesday and Thursday beforehand as people build in a long weekend around the holiday. Our advice? Start your Christmas trip a little bit later this year - perhaps as late as Christmas Eve - and stay until December 28 or so to find the best fares.
