And Baby Makes 5! All About Chrissy Teigen and John Legend's 3 Kids
John Legend announces the birth of rainbow baby.
John Legend and Chrissy Teigen recently welcomed their third child, a rainbow baby born Friday, Jan. 13, 2023.
Legend confirmed the baby's arrival during a private concert later in the evening, noting, according to People, that they welcomed "the little baby this morning."
"What a blessed day," he told the crowd.
Despite Legend's understated reveal, we know they're over the moon with the safe arrival of baby No. 3. Legend and Teigen, who had struggled with fertility issues, experienced a miscarriage with their son, Jack, in 2020.
We can expect at least a little bit of a wait for the new baby's name as Teigen has said the couple likes to take time to make their decision.
“We never decide on our babies’ names until the last possible moment after they’re born, just before we leave the hospital," Teigen wrote on Instagram in 2020.
Whatever name they choose, we're sure they will share the details with their millions of fans on Instagram.
The proud parents frequently show off their daughter, Luna, and son, Miles, on social media, making the tykes little celebrities in their own right while decisively letting them also just be kids.
Like all children, Luna and Miles are growing up so fast! In September 2021, Teigen revealed on Instagram that she shed "tears" while dropping off Luna at her first day of kindergarten and Miles at pre-K.
That month, Teigen also revealed that her kids "are obsessed with pampering other people"—especially their mom, the lucky recipient of a foot massage from Luna! (And really, who wouldn't take advantage of that?)
Legend and Teigen are acutely concerned about the world in which they're raising Miles and Luna, especially with regards to civil unrest and racism in the United States. Legend has been subjected to chilling experiences of prejudice, which Teigen is forced to explain to their kids.
"There are books that I read when I became a mom that would explain to them hard and traumatic situations. But it's really hard to teach them about their privilege; there are no books for that. But regardless of money or status, they’re always going to have their skin color," Teigen told Marie Claire in September 2020. "When it comes to them being treated differently because of the color of their skin, I'm going to look to John for a lot of help with that because while they are Asian and white too, their skin color is Black. We just try to talk to them like little adults, saying it in words they'll understand, making it known that it's very serious, and letting them ask as many questions as they need."

Miles is, of course, the same name as the great Miles Davis. Chrissy really liked the name Theodore, so we put it all together and had Miles Theodore Stephens. When he came out and we hung out with him for a little while, we were like, 'He looks like a Miles.'"

But we, for some reason, had started to call this little guy in my belly Jack,” Teigen wrote in part on Instagram. “So he will always be Jack to us. Jack worked so hard to be a part of our little family, and he will be, forever. To our Jack – I’m so sorry that the first few moments of your life were met with so many complications, that we couldn’t give you the home you needed to survive. We will always love you.”
In September 2021, a year after the loss, Teigen, Legend, and their family held a memorial for Jack at their home with Buddhist monks.
"Took me a year but finally honored his little spirit with some blessings today," Teigen wrote. "Hopefully some closure in my heart will happen now."

"John and I were having trouble. We would have had kids five, six years ago if it had happened. But my gosh, it's been a process," she said (via Entertainment Tonight). "Once you open up about those things to other people, you start learning that a lot of other people in your life are seeing these people and they have this shame about it."
In August 2017, Legend told Cosmopolitan about his and Teigen's struggles to conceive.
"Having a baby is a big challenge for a couple, and going through that together strengthens your bond because if you make it through [having a child], you know you can make it through anything. I think it’s especially difficult when you can't conceive naturally. You want to feel like everything's working properly and want everything to be perfect, but sometimes it's not," he said. "I wouldn't say we can't conceive naturally, but I would say that it's enough of a challenge where it felt like we needed help. We're lucky that we're living in an age where we can conceive in other ways."

I picked her and was like, 'Let's put in the girl.' I think I was most excited and allured by the fact that John would be the best father to a little girl. That excited me," she continued. "It excited me to see…just the thought of seeing him with a little girl. I think he deserves a little girl. I think he deserves that bond."
She added at the time, "A boy will come along. We'll get there too, so it’s not like we really have to pick. But he definitely is very lucky to have a little girl. And this girl is going to be so completely lucky to have John as her papa—it's crazy!"
