Former Bachelor Matt James says he's 'baffled' by catcalling: 'When has whistling at a person ever worked?'

Matt James is calling out catcalling.

The former Bachelor star took to his Instagram Stories on Friday to talk about people whistling at others in public — mainly men — and asked why it's something that people do after witnessing one of the interactions himself.

"Alright, I have a question. When has whistling at a person ever worked? If it's worked, please let me know because I saw it this morning and I was just thinking like, I wonder if that works," he said. "Like why do people do that if it doesn’t work?"

James placed a caption on top of his video asking if whistling at someone or being whistled at has "EVER resulted in a pleasant exchange." He also recalled another instance of women facing unsolicited outreach from men while at the gym.

"I saw a dude trying to holler at somebody on the treadmill today when she was in the middle of her workout. Same dude goes to holler at somebody who's on the rower. And I'm like, I don't know how attractive or smooth you'd have to be to interrupt somebody mid-workout, or selfish, I don't know," he said. "If y'all have an answer, please enlighten me because I am baffled."

James continued to write more commentary on the videos pleading for people to "stop bothering these women at the GYM!!" He also wrote, "This is why (some women) don't like to go to the gym!"

The 30-year-old likely isn't doing any catcalling himself, as he's dating the winner of his season of The Bachelor, Rachael Kirkconnell. The couple had a controversial start after she faced accusations of racism. Since reuniting and committing to making their relationship work just over a year ago, James has shared a glimpse into their relationship on social media. More importantly, he previously told Yahoo Life that he likes to use his online platform to give people a look at what his life is really like outside of reality television.

"I just think it's important to be authentic, and that's true to who I am. I'm just a generally happy, positive person," he said. "And I want to share that aspect of my life with people so that they can see that you can do all these things and be the person that you want to be without compromising."
