It's that time of year parents wait for and students dread: Back to school.

To help students and parents get ready, District 2 Leon County Commissioner Christian Caban is hosting a "Back 2 School Bash" on Friday, from 5:30 to 8 p.m., at the Fort Braden Community Center, 16387 Blountstown Highway.

The event flyers, which Caban has posted to social media, advertise free school supplies (especially clear backpacks), free food provided by Summers Smokehouse, free haircuts for kids and plenty of family activities.

The District 2 office has been collecting school supplies for each grade up to 8th since the beginning of July. Supplies include crayons, binders, pencils, pens and colored folders.

The event is also sponsored by Leon Schools Superintendent Rocky Hanna, Leon County School Board member Darryl Jones, the DJ DEMP Foundation, Fort Braden Flag Football, ACE Hardware, WastePro USA and others.
