Back-to-school giveaways in, near Baton Rouge: Get free supplies, backpacks, clothes
BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Students will be returning to school in the next few weeks across East Baton Rouge Parish and surrounding parishes. We have compiled a list of back-to-school giveaway events that are taking place in, near Baton Rouge.
Teachers and parents across the local area are getting prepared for the upcoming 2024-25 school year. Students will be gathering supplies from their schools’ lists that are needed to return to the classroom.
Whether you are looking for free supplies, backpacks, clothes, community resources or health services, events around the area can cater to your specific needs.

Summer basketball games aim to keep Baton Rouge kids away from crime
Don’t Think Just Run Foundation 2024 Back to School Bash
The Back to School Bash will be held at Capitol Elementary School on July 20. The event will feature free haircuts, backpacks with school supplies, community resources, health services and free activities.
When: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 20.
Where: 4141 Gus Young Ave.
Pack the Sack Back-to-School Giveaway
Mayor Pro Tempore LaMont Cole and the MLK Center will be hosting its annual Pack the Sack Back-to-School Giveaway on July 21. The event will provide free school supplies, free immunizations, free physicals, vendors, games and food.
When: 1-4 p.m. Sunday, July 21.
Where: 2680 Bogan Walk.
CareSouth Back to School
CareSouth Medical and Dental will have three back-to-school supplies giveaway events in July. All events are drive-thru only and families will get one bag per child. The child must be present to get the backpack, according to organizers.
When: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, July 26; 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 27.
Where: Friday events will be at 904 Catalpa St. in Donaldsonville and 59340 River West Drive in Plaquemine; Saturday event at 3140 Florida St. in Baton Rouge.
District 6: Back 2 School Giveaway
Metropolitan Councilman Cleve Dunn Jr. is inviting the Baton Rouge community to his Back 2 School Giveaway. According to a news release, the event is made possible through “generous support and contributions of numerous organizations and businesses.”
When: 9-11 a.m. Saturday, July 27.
Where: 9048 Airline Hwy.
Round Room’s School Rocks Backpack Giveaway
Round Room, LLC, a Verizon authorized retailer, is hosting its 12th Annual “School Rocks Backpack Giveaway.” According to a news release, hundreds of people across the country are expected to line up to get a free backpack, as well as take part in family-friendly activities.
When: 1 p.m. Sunday, July 28.
Where: 5635 Main St. Suite D, Zachary.
Back-to-School Drive and Community Career Fair
This event is hosted by Magnolia South Reality, Beaulieu Litigation Group and the BlacU Collective. According to a news release, backpacks/school supply giveaways, career resources for the whole family, hands-on activities for kids and musical performances will be offered.
When: 1-4 p.m. Sunday, July 28.
Where: 201 Community College Drive.
Happi Llandiers & The Backpack Project Back-to-School Drive Thru
The Back-to-School Drive Thru event will be held at the West Feliciana Middle School. According to West Feliciana Parish Schools, students must be present in their car to get the supplies and supplies are only for residents of West Feliciana Parish.
When: 7:30-10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3.
Where: 9559 Bains Road, St. Francisville.
Mount Moriah Baptist Church Back-2-School Supply Giveaway
Mount Moriah Baptist Church will be holding a back-to-school supply giveaway Saturday, Aug. 3. The event will be starting at 10 a.m. and they will be giving away free backpacks until supplies last.
When: 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3.
Where: 1055 North 39th St.
Dr. Martin Luther King Committe of Zachary Back-to-School Giveaway
This annual back-to-school giveaway will be held at the Zachary High School Gym. According to a news release, attendees are asked to bring at least one canned good to support the Zachary Food Pantry.
When: 10 a.m. until supplies last. Saturday Aug. 3.
Where: 4100 Bronco Lane, Zachary.
City of Baker School System Back-to-School Giveaway
The City of Baker School System will be hosting its back-to-school giveaway on Aug. 3 at the City of Baker School Board Office.
When: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3.
Where: 14750 Plank Road, Baker.
Charity Christian Church Back-to-School Giveaway
The Charity Christian Church in Baton Rouge will be holding a back-to-school giveaway on Aug. 3. According to the church, they will have free school uniforms, free school sneakers, free backpacks filled with school supplies, health information for each family, free reading books, food and games.
When: 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 3.
