Bada Bing! A ‘Sopranos’ Prequel Movie Is in the Works
Sopranos fans, rejoice! A prequel to the beloved HBO series is coming to a theater near you.
David Chase, the show’s creator, conceived a feature prequel to the 21-time Emmy Award-winning series, titled The Many Saints of Newark. The film takes place in ’60s-era Newark, New Jersey, where race wars between black and Italian gangs became deadly.
Chase and Lawrence Konner (Boardwalk Empire) are penning the script, and though little is known about the plot, younger versions of Tony Soprano’s father, Giovanni “Johnny Boy” (Joseph Siravo); mother, Livia (Nancy Marchand); and Uncle Junior (Dominic Chianese) are expected to star. Sadly, James Gandolfini, who played the show’s main character, Tony, died of a heart attack in 2013.
No word yet on when the movie will drop, but we’ll be dusting off our DVD player and watching the Sopranos box set if you need us.
