Ballerina’s First Pitch May Prove Baseball and Tutus Don’t Mix

We applaud the continued effort to mix ballet and baseball, yet a recent clip of a ballerina in a tutu throwing the first pitch at a major league game may not do much to seal the deal. As the MLBCut4 account posted, “Still not sure.”

Still not sure.

At a New York Mets vs. Washington Nationals this weekend, the first pitch was thrown by dancer Maki Onuki from the Washington Ballet. While showing grace and energy through her twist and leaps off the pitcher’s mound, she wound up losing a shoe and nearly beaning the catcher in the face.

As unsporty as Onuki’s throw may have been, it was arguably better than another attempt to pair baseball and ballet, when Miss Texas 2014 hoped to add some dance moves to her first pitch.

No matter the results, from the smiles on both of these ladies’ faces, it looks like they still had a good time, and that’s all that really matters.
