Barack Obama sends the prettiest surprise to Michelle on her birthday
Barack Obama celebrated wife Michelle’s 54th birthday in the sweetest way: with a colorful bouquet of flowers addressed to “Miche.”
On Wednesday, the 44th first lady shared a photo of the tulip-and-rose assortment that came with a handwritten note from her husband. “Thank you @BarackObama for the beautiful flowers waiting for me in the office this morning,” Michelle wrote on the post, which has more than 1 million likes. “You’re my best friend, biggest fan, and getting notes and flowers from you will never get old.”

Michelle also thanked her supporters: “And to the many people from around the country who sent cards and posted on social media, you have no idea how much we love hearing from you. I know birthdays can sometimes be bittersweet (54!), but your messages of hope, generosity, and warmth have always reminded me how lucky and blessed we are.”
In a second photo, Michelle showed a glimpse of her desk calendar buried under greeting cards and Wednesday’s date, on which (presumably) Barack had written, “Happy Birthday!”
Barack also posted a candid Instagram photo of the couple that depicted him staring adoringly at his wife of more than two decades. “You’re not only my wife and the mother of my children, you’re my best friend,” he wrote. “I love your strength, your grace, and your determination. And I love you more each day. Happy Birthday.”

Barack is all about the grand romantic gestures. In October, when Michelle sat down with TV producer Shonda Rhimes at a conference in Pennsylvania, Barack hijacked the meeting with a video in honor of their 25th wedding anniversary.
“Hi honey!” he greeted his wife in the video. “Not only have you been an extraordinary partner, not only have you been a great friend, somebody who could always make me laugh, somebody who would always make sure that I was following what I thought was right, but you have also been an example to our daughters and to the entire country.”
Barack said, “Your strength, your grace, your determination, your honesty, and the fact that you look so good doing all of this … it’s remarkable. It’s no wonder that as people got to know you the way I got to know you, that they fell in love. It’s truly the best decision I ever made to be persistent enough to ask you out on a date that you finally gave in, and I hope you feel the same way.”
