Barbra Streisand had her dead dog Sammie cloned twice
Barbra Streisand has revealed that she cloned her beloved dog Samantha not once, but twice.
Yes.
Streisand told Variety that two of her dogs, Miss Violet and Miss Scarlett, were cloned from her 14-year-old dog, a Cotton du Tulear, who died in 2017.
Using cells from Samantha's (aka Sammie) mouth and stomach, the two new dogs were created. They were named Miss Scarlett and Miss Violet, and Barbra dressed them in red and lavender to tell them apart. Obviously.
'They have different personalities,' Streisand said. 'I'm waiting for them to get older so I can see if they have her [Samantha's] brown eyes and seriousness."
Barbra is also the proud owner (mother?) of Miss Fanny, a distant relative of Sammie, who's named after Funny Girl's Fanny Brice.
Now if you'll excuse us, we're off to have our cats' cells preserved in petri dishes.
In the wide-ranging interview, Streisand also reflected on her career, shared her views on the US political climate and opened up about the inequality and treatment of women in Hollywood, following the #MeToo movement and its spiritual successor #TimesUp.
'I have a line in one of my journals,' she said. 'It was actually about how we're giving you the benefit of the doubt that we're equal. I think women are more powerful than men.'
