Baseball legend spotted picking up pumpkin bread at Westchester bakery
Talk about hitting one out of the ballpark. Baseball legend Joe Torre, a former player, manager of the Yankees, television commentator and special assistant to the Commissioner of Baseball, stopped by The Kneaded Bread in Port Chester Nov. 6 to pick up a pumpkin loaf.
The bakery, celebrating it's 25th year in business, is also a favorite of mine. I dubbed their pumpkin bread and chocolate chip challah a "Best Thing I Ate This Week," part of an ongoing food series I do that runs every Friday.
Customers will find more than 20 varieties of bread here, everything from traditional white to pumpernickel, provolone, rosemary olive, poppy onion, seeded Italian, potato rosemary, sunflower and stone-ground whole wheat.
This time of year, pumpkin is a big seller, though be warned: the pumpkin bread is available weekends only until the end of December.

They also do soups, sandwiches and salads in addition to pastries and pies, the latter of which should be ordered soon for Thanksgiving. Maybe, if you're lucky, you'll run into Torre or perhaps another celebrity. A lot, after all, live in Westchester and who doesn't need pastries, pie or bread?
