New Baton Rouge Mexican restaurant pairs Asian food flavors with Louisiana shrimp, seafood

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A new Tex-Mex restaurant with Asian-inspired dishes has soft opened in Baton Rouge, with plans to hold its grand opening in August.

Ton Suansawang, owner/operator at The Patio Tex Mex Fusion, said, “This is the first location for Tex Mex concept for our restaurant group.”

The group also owns Geisha Sushi in Denham Springs and Prairieville and Umami Japanese Bistro on Burbank Drive.

According to Suansawang, the Patio Tex Mex Fusion adds an Asian flair to its menu. He said the current menu “is in its market testing phase, and it is not a permanent menu.”

Suansawang pointed out specific menu offerings, including tuna tostada, which has a Japanese influence and East Asian flavors and a lettuce wrap with beef that’s inspired by Thai food. Their menu will also feature Louisiana shrimp and crawfish.

The restaurant’s birria tacos are currently running as a ‘chef’s special,’ according to Suansawang. He said, “it will be added to be a permanent menu item on the grand opening menu.”

The restaurant offers dine-in and take-out. Suansawang said, “Catering will also be available after the grand opening.”

The restaurant also has a bar that provides tequila, vodka, bourbon, whiskey and wine.

The Patio Tex Mex Fusion is at 7655 Old Hammond Hwy., Baton Rouge.

“It is more like an opportunity that opened for us as we are always looking for business opportunities to expand our love for foods,” said Suansawang. “The location and its owner chose us, not us choose them.”

The restaurant’s hours of operation include 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. According to Suansawang, last seating will be 30 minutes before the restaurant’s closing time.
