Battle of the Ponytails: 2016 American Music Awards Edition

Who doesn’t love a good ponytail? No matter the occasion — whether it’s for a black-tie event or Sunday brunch with the girls — a pony always works. At the 2016 American Music Awards, there were a couple of celebrities who went with this classic hairstyle and they looked freakin’ fantastic. But which star’s ‘do stood out from the rest? Let’s take a closer look at all the perfect ponytails at the AMAs.

Ariana Grande

We’ve been waiting with bated breath for the hot young pop star to switch up her usual ponytail — and she finally did it! Celebrity hairstylist Chris Appleton gave Grande an “edgy, modern twist” by adding subtle cornrows at the crown of her high pony. For a “high-gloss finish,” he used Color Wow Pop & Lock High Gloss Shellac ($18).

Taraji P. Henson

Ahhh, sookie sookie, Cookie! Err, we mean Taraji. The Empire star gave off Rapunzel vibes on the AMAs red carpet with her long and wavy ponytail. With her locks slicked back and center-parted, the actress also got to show off her incredible matte aubergine lipstick.

Heidi Klum

The supermodel played it smart in the style department and paired her printed metallic jumpsuit with a simple ponytail, bronzy makeup and nude lipstick. The gilded color of her ensemble made her blond hair seem even brighter.

Karlie Kloss

Here’s another model pony moment at the AMAs. Kloss worked all her angles with a sleek, high pony adorned with a thick black band. The contrast between her ponytail holder and blond hair is so on point!

Ciara

Not only did Ciara turn heads with her maternity style, but the singer also wowed us with a tousled ponytail hairstyle. Mizani global artistic director César DeLe?n Ramirêz said in a release that his “vision was a long, messy ponytail with a ’70s-inspired fringe.” To keep Ciara’s hair smooth, he used Mizani Thermasmooth System along with a GHD blow dryer.
