Because we deserve nice things, Jeff Goldblum is releasing his first album ever

Today in pretty much the best news imaginable, there’s a Jeff Goldblum album on the way. And it’s not comedy, or weird covers of good songs, ehem, William Shatner. Jeff Goldblum is releasing a jazz piano album, and it will be here sooner than you think.

Though Goldblum is trained in classical and jazz piano since childhood, this will be his first recorded album.

It was the actor’s musical performance (as an accompanist!) on The Graham Norton Show that first caught the eye of a record label. Golblum has played with band The Mildred Snitzer Orchestra for years — including live shows — but they’ve never recorded their work together. Decca Records Label Group is reportedly super psyched to have the Jeff Goldblum album underway. In an adorable statement, their head of A&R Tom Lewis said the following:

“As far as I can tell, everyone loves Jeff Goldblum. It’s like a universal truth. His love of jazz is infectious and whenever he plays he makes you feel very happy. If we can take Jeff’s music into people’s homes then we will be helping, in our own small way, to make the world a happier place.”

Yes. Please. It’s all so true! As for the man himself, Goldblum put out the following comment through a representative:

“I’m so happy to be in cahoots with the wonderful people at Decca, one of the coolest and most prestigious labels of all time.”

It wouldn’t be weird to describe a professional man in his 60s as precious, right? Because that’s what he is. Everything about this is adorable. It’s also uniquely Jeff Goldblum. Like, after decades of amazing performances, after becoming a walking meme and a general husband of the internet, it was his casual piano accompaniment to noted jazz singer Gregory Porter on a BBC TV show that finally got a record label to say, “Yo, this guy.”

So, congrats, Jeff Goldblum. Now it’s not just area dads who are about to get really into jazz piano.
