BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) –A sister in Beckley is keeping her late brother’s memory alive, with the second annual Barbecue and Cancer Fundraiser, in honor of Tom Macaulay, on Saturday, September 7, 2024.

Macaulay was a long-time assistant prosecutor in Raleigh County who recently lost his battle with esophageal cancer, according to Jackie Mantz, Macaulay’s sister.

After her brother died, Mantz decided in 2023 to raise funds for cancer research organizations and to continue one of Macaulay’s traditions, an annual pig roast with family and friends from West Virginia University, his alma mater.

The first fundraiser raised more than $10,000, she said.

On Saturday, the second fundraiser, which is a BBQ, will be held at the Beckley Moose Lodge on New River Drive from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., with George Whittaker and The Davisson Brothers Band performing.

Guests are invited to bring their favorite dish. Tickets are $30 in advance or $35 at the door.

Mantz said money raised will benefit WV Kids Cancer Crusaders and Pelotonia for Cancer Research at the James Cancer Research Institute.

“All funds that are being raised from ticket sales from this are going to cancer causes,” said Mantz. “Our main goal is to end cancer.”
