Beltrami County opens milk bank in Bemidji for babies in need
Jun. 13—BEMIDJI — Beltrami County is now a participant with Minnesota Milk Bank for Babies, a network of milk banks that connects donor milk with babies in need.
The new Beltrami County Public Health Milk Depot is located at 616 America Avenue NW in Suite 130 in Bemidji and is the first milk bank in the Headwaters Region.
The mission of Minnesota Milk Bank for Babies is to improve infant health outcomes by ensuring that medically vulnerable babies have access to safely pasteurized, life-giving human donor milk when the mother's milk is unavailable or in low supply, a release said.
"This is a significant service, especially based on our location," Amy Bowles, Beltrami County's Public Health Director, said in the release. "The next nearest milk bank is Wadena, then Fargo. We are happy to be the newest partner with the Minnesota Milk Bank for Babies."
Those interested in becoming a donor and who have extra expressed breast milk are encouraged to visit
