Ben & Jerry’s Co-Founder Is Launching An Entire Line Of Bernie Sanders Ice Cream And Fans Are Already Roasting It
One half of the iconic Ben & Jerry's duo—Ben Cohen, who co-founded the company with Jerry Greenfield in 1977—is getting political with his latest pint: An entire line of Bernie Sanders-inspired ice cream.
Cohen actually started dabbling with politically-fueled flavors back in 2016, aka during Sander's first run for the oval office. The pint, which was released under an alternate brand name, Ben's Best, was called Bernie's Yearning.
So naturally, for the 2020 primaries, Cohen decided to revive the idea with pints of "Bernie's Back." He announced the news to social media Friday, tweeting, "We're going all the way this time."
But what does it taste like other then, ya know, climate change reform and free college tuition? The flavor was billed as a "Hot Cinnamon Ice Cream with one very large chocolate disc on top and a (very stiff) butter toffee backbone going down the middle." I'm sure you guessed by the very interesting description, Ben made sure the ice cream was riddled with symbolism.
"The chocolate disc represents all the wealth that has risen to the top 1 percent," the description reads. "The backbone represents Bernie's steadfast determination to un-rig our economy. And the hot cinnamon is our political revolution holding politicians' feet to the fire to make America work for working people of all races and genders."
This is just the first in a full line of Bernie flavors. We’re going all the way this time. And when Bernie’s in the White House and I become the Minister of Ice Cream— a pint in every freezer, a sundae in every bowl. https://t.co/4e9duS8JWv #BerniesBack #Bernie2020 #FeelTheBern pic.twitter.com/faMH7zxsfn

The internet, however, isn't so into the idea. People are mocking the sh*t out of both Sanders and this launch, taking aim at his socialist-leaning views."The container is only 10% full because he taxed it at 90%?" one user wrote on Twitter. Others added, "It costs $47 and there's nothing inside" and "Don't fall for it! It's just the old Stalin flavor with new packaging."
Some are even threatening to boycott the brand all together. "I buy your ice cream all the time. No longer," an, um, passionate former fan wrote. "That's too bad--I really like your ice cream, but I'll never eat it again," another added.
And though it's not *technically* a Ben & Jerry's product, Ben and Jerry (the actual guys) crafted the flavor in Cohen's own kitchen. According to the website, 40 hand-signed (by Ben!) pints will be available for giveaway when you sign up for the Bernie Sander's campaign mailing list.
