Forget Phish Food and Half Baked. Ben & Jerry's just announced a potential addition to its flavors that might be its best yet.

The company released a statement revealing that Ben & Jerry's CBD ice cream might soon be a reality.

"Currently, the FDA prohibits adding CBD to food and beverages," according to the release. "But change is on the horizon: They've set a public hearing on the legalization of CBD-infused foods and beverages for May 31st, and we've submitted a comment to them in support of legalization,"

ICYDK, the FDA currently prohibits selling food and drinks with CBD in it. Despite the FDA's ruling, though, many companies have still been selling CBD-infused food and drinks, which is why you've been seeing CBD candy everywhere. (Carl's Jr. even rolled out a CBD-infused burger in Denver for 4/20.)

To be clear, CBD-infused foods aren't the same as weed edibles. CBD is a compound found in cannabis plants, but unlike THC, it's not psychoactive.

That being said, Ben & Jerry's THC-infused ice cream isn't completely out of the question. Back in 2015, co-founder Ben Cohen told HuffPost Live that combining ice cream and marijuana where legal "makes sense to me." (Related: How to Buy the Best Safe and Effective CBD Products)

Ben & Jerry's hasn't given any hints as to whether you can expect brand new versions of CBD-infused flavors of existing favorites, or when the new flavors might start popping up in grocery stores. The FDA's public hearing is currently ongoing, so we'll probably know more about the future of CBD in Ben & Jerry's (and other foods) soon.
