Digital storage is kind of like triple-A batteries. It’s not something you ever think about, but when you really need it, you’re ready to give your right arm in exchange for it (to continue the battery analogy, that would be at 3 a.m. when your weakened smoke detector starts to chirp at three-second intervals).
So while it’s not glamorous, storage is essential. On-board storage on phones and laptops only goes so far, and coming up short can get in the way of downloading all the videos, photos, and music you want. Many of us need to upgrade.
Prime Day to the rescue: Today, you can expand how much media your device can handle, at a serious discount. Right now, digital storage products from SanDisk and Western Digital are massively marked down. Save up to 60 percent on memory cards, external hard drives, flash drives and more. We scoured the sales to make it easy for you.
Memory cards
On sale for $80 (was $200), the SanDisk Extreme microSDXC UHS-I Memory Card (512GB) is ideal for digital cameras, like standard point-and-shoots and advanced DSLRs. Thanks to its high speed performance with up to 160MB per second transfer speeds, you won’t have to wait long to scroll through or download photos. It even works with the Nintendo Switch and Switch Lite too!
“Not only does it work flawlessly on the Nintendo Switch, it runs games without any noticeable slow down,” raved a five-star reviewer. “I'm the one who likes to keep my Switch games ready on the go, so this SD card is paired up with my decked out Switch Lite.”

External hard drives
Most laptops only have on-board storage upwards of 512GB. This is great for moderate use, but if you’re a professional videographer or photographer or a hardcore gamer, you need something that can store video files, high-resolution photos and big games. This Seagate Plus External Hard Drive—on sale for $55, or $25 off at Amazon—comes with 1TB of storage built-in with fast transfer speeds, so you’ll always have what you need.
“This storage hard drive is very slender and fits well in my laptop bag side pocket,” shared a satisfied shopper. “I purchased a laptop basically for e-mail and word processing. I didn't realize it didn't have much storage capacity so I bought this external storage unit and take it with me wherever I go.”
