These six huts – two of them suites – have floor-to-ceiling views of what must be one of the UK’s most expansive seascapes, stretching from the South Devon town of Teignmouth, right along the Jurassic Coast as far as Portland Bill in Dorset. Geared for couples, the one-bedroom huts and suites are designed to be an extension of the hotel, rather than self-catering, so meals are taken in the cosy sea-facing restaurant in the hotel’s main building. The accommodation has been designed to make the most of the show-stopping panorama, with concertina glass doors, and beds, sofas and mirrors positioned at perfect viewing angles. The hotel stands in a stunning position overlooking the sea, with the dramatic chalk stacks of Old Harry Rocks in the foreground and the Isle of Wight in the distance. All the rooms are delightful, many with interesting original features. They employ vintage style fabrics, chandeliers and beautifully dressed beds, with the Pigs’ signature Roberts radios, well-stocked ‘larders’ and excellent bathrooms. Go for Harry’s Hut or The Pig Hug, shepherd’s hut sat under the trees with views out to sea, with a private joint deck. Natural Retreats John O'Groats

Apart from being incredibly beautiful in a rugged, windswept sort of way, coastal John O'Groats was a pretty rundown place until Natural Retreats pitched up, bringing its sustainably built, stylish, self-catering accommodation with it. 23 free-standing residences, made of glass, stone and timber, each have three bedrooms, a gloriously spacious, open-plan living area and very contemporary furnishings. They also launched the Inn at John O'Groats, a series of one- to four-bedroom apartments housed in what was once the John O'Groats Hotel, built in 1875, and a colourful new Nordic-style extension (pictured below). The huts, which overlook the Camel estuary over to Steppa Point and the Atlantic, are close to the outdoor pool and the seaside restaurant – all the better for ordering drinks and snacks straight to your hut. They are classic English seaside in style, with bunting, tables and chairs, plus any added extras you want, such as champagne and birthday cakes.
