The best nightclubs in Las Vegas

Las Vegas comes into its own after dark - ? Siegfried Layda/Siegfried Layda

Las Vegas is all about nightlife: Sin City’s clubs and lounges are world-famous for a reason. Generally speaking, unless you’re at a venue off the Strip, there’s an upscale, casual dress code. And while women can get away with almost anything, the rules are always enforced for men: no baseball caps, sneakers, or open-toed shoes are allowed. You’ll wait in line no matter what, but if you’re looking to book a table or splurge on bottle service, always book ahead.

Jewel

Drake and Steve Aoki are just two of the headliners who’ve appeared at Jewel on the Strip. Located inside ARIA hotel, the nightclub has the same feel as the resort itself: sleek, modern, high-tech and luxurious. There are five VIP suites (one is a modelled after a retro speakeasy) overlooking a cool dance floor illuminated by LED lights and projected images that move to the rhythm of the music. It’s a popular option in Vegas, partly because of its smart design — even when it’s packed, Jewel feels less uncomfortably crowded than its counterparts on the Strip.

Hakkasan

This superclub at the MGM Grand is hugely popular — and, well, huge. Hakkasan occupies five floors, and the central dance floor, where world-class DJs like Calvin Harris and Tiesto take to the turntables, is massive. There’s also a more relaxed lounge on site, the Ling Ling Lounge, where you can take a break and grab a drink. Not to say that the Ling Ling Lounge is too sedate – Questlove has spun there. Note that Hakkasan is also the name of the excellent Cantonese restaurant just next door.

XS

The walls are lined with actual gold at the aptly named XS, the posh nightclub at Encore hotel. The lavish interior design was inspired by the curves of the human body, and outdoors, the nightclub spills out next to the resort’s gorgeous outdoor pool one night a week (during Sunday’s NightSwim event, only in summer.) Major Lazer and Diplo perform regularly to a well-dressed crowd. Splurge on bottle service at a VIP table (with prior reservation only, of course) or just hit the gilded dance floor, if you can squeeze onto it.

Marquee

Like everything else at The Cosmopolitan hotel, Marquee is stylish and smartly designed –and geared toward hip millennials. The club offers a diverse range of spaces, including several dance floors, a library-style cocktail den for VIPs, and an open-air pool deck. It’s lined with floor-to-ceiling glass, allowing stunning views over the Strip. Marquee books international DJs practically every night, and the space doubles as a dayclub with VIP cabanas that have their own plunge pools and private spas. Monday nights are surprisingly popular, drawing in a local crowd.

Drai’s

Another versatile indoor-outdoor venue that doubles as a dayclub and nightclub. Drai’s is an upscale option located at a lesser-known hotel and casino, The Cromwell. Chris Brown and The Weeknd both held residencies here, and Nicki Minaj has also put in a memorable performance. But one of Drai’s greatest assets is its panoramic view of the neon lights and landmarks of the Strip. It’s hard to beat it, especially when you’re dancing under palm trees, drink in hand, by the club’s pool at 2am.

Chateau

The name gives it away: Chateau is, of course, the busy nightclub at Paris Las Vegas. It’s not quite as happening, in terms of big name DJs, as some of the other clubs on the Strip – it’s worth mentioning, though, that Shaquille O’Neal has taken to the turntables here on multiple occasions – but the design is great. A rooftop patio, on the second level, faces the resort’s towering replica of the Eiffel Tower, offering a welcome breeze when you’re looking for a break from the dance floor, not to mention sweeping views over the Strip below.

On the Record

Look for the door to an old-school record store: you’ll step off the casino floor and into this hip indoor-outdoor venue at the Park MGM. This inventive spot, dreamt up by the Houston twins known for their nightlife portfolio in Los Angeles, brings together elements of speakeasy and nightclub. The soundtrack is key, of course – a slate of well-known DJs and musicians populate the calendar, and the club hosts afterparties for various concerts, including Usher’s 2023 residency at the resort. With music industry clout and a serious cocktail program, it’s no wonder On the Record has become something of a celebrity hot spot.

OMNIA

There’s a lot to like about OMNIA, a nightclub at Caesars Palace. The aesthetic is glamorous and over the top, with glittering chandeliers, gleaming brass fixtures, oak furnishings, and antique mirrors. And there’s plenty of space: the club is divided into four sections, including a huge terrace with a great view over the Strip, and a 'balcony' with 12 VIP boxes inspired by the look and feel of great European opera houses. The music revolves around the top 40 and hip hop, though DJs like Calvin Harris also play sets.
