If you were paying attention at Marc Jacobs’s Spring-Summer 2016 show you noticed a model who didn’t exactly look like the other lanky lasses that were flying by on the runway. She was blond, buxom, and beautiful in a cream off-the-shoulder dress that was accessorized with a giant marabou boa. Punk rock fans clocked her instantly, she was of course, Beth Ditto, lead singer for Gossip.
It wasn’t Ditto’s first strut down the runway, she’s also walked in shows for her good friend, couturier Jean Paul Gaultier, in Paris. Today the star announced that she’s diving even further into the fashion realm by launching her own eponymous line of plus-size clothing. While the Beth Ditto collection won’t be ready for retail until February, she’s kicking things off in a celebratory fashion by partnering with Gaultier on a limited-edition T-shirt featuring a trompe l'oeil version of his famed cone bra corset design - you know the one that is emblazoned into our memories thanks to Madonna and her Blonde Ambition tour?

The piece, which is on sale at Ditto’s website for $165 and is available up to a size 30, cleverly features a string tie in the back for easy adjusting. Gaultier, who would famously cast women and men of all sizes, shapes, and genders in his ready-to-wear shows, loves to celebrate the art of the body.
“Big girls are beautiful and Beth is super beautiful! Long live the beauty with shapes, boobs and bottoms,” Gaultier said in a statement. “This is a new concept, a loose fit corset. And Beth fits it perfectly.”
As for the line itself, Ditto is looking forward to creating clothes for women with curves. “This line is by us, for us, period. It’s my lifelong dream to get to design real clothes for big people, clothes that are comfortable and cool!”
