Over 85 percent of students in the Los Angeles Unified School District live near or below the poverty line, and only 80 percent of the district's students graduate from high school. But charities like Communities In Schools (CIS) are working to bring graduation numbers up and get kids into college.

CIS of Los Angeles (CISLA), founded in 2007, serves 10,000 students annually in nine high-need middle and high schools. In that time, over 40,000 students and their families have been supported. In 2017, 100 percent of CISLA seniors graduated from high school.

CIS also operates nationwide, with nearly 1.5 million students in 25 states and Washington, D.C. 96% of CISLA's students graduate from high school, college or career ready.

CISLA's third "Lunch with a Leader" event will take place on October 19. In partnership with Charitybuzz, CIS is currently auctioning the opportunity for guests to dine with leaders at a private event hosted by CAA Foundation. You can bid on the chance to have lunch with Jeffrey Katzenberg, the co-founder of Dreamworks, and Richard Lovett, president of the Creative Arts Agency. Past participants have included Warren Buffet, Robert Downey Jr., Reese Witherspoon, and Cindy Crawford.
