Big Brave Doberman’s Reaction to Mom’s Hair Dryer Is Priceless
Sometimes we think of certain dog breeds as being tough and courageous, like Doberman Pinschers. But even tough dogs have things that they are afraid of or don't like, and in the case of Davis Dobermom, he doesn't like his mom's hair dryer.
Davis' mom posted a video on Monday, February 26th while in the bathroom drying her hair. Davis hears the hair dryer and comes in to investigate; he seems curious about the sound. But when mom turns the dryer on him, he loses it! Make sure your sound is on for the full effect!
He is not a fan of mom's hair dryer that's for sure! I'm not sure if he's afraid of it or just doesn't like the sound, but he definitely doesn't like it...even though he keeps coming back for more! Several of Davis' commenters shared that their Dobermans don't like the hair dryer, either. Other Dobies don't like the vacuum cleaner and @Kenz shared, "When I am done doing my skincare or makeup I put on lip balm. And I smack my lips three times and he flips out!" Davis' mom responded with, "Cute! Mine waits for me to put lip balm on him after LOL!"

Why Are Dogs Afraid of Weird Things?
Is your dog afraid of something weird? My parents have a Cane Corso and she absolutely hates when people wear hats. Other things dogs are afraid of include umbrellas, shopping bags, glasses, and of course the vacuum cleaner. I can understand the hair dryer and the vacuum because of all the noise, but why are they afraid of other seemingly harmless things?
Many experts attribute dogs' fear to a lack of socialization early on when they are puppies. If they aren't introduced to these things when they are little, they aren't familiar with them and can't process what they are. Other experts say that dogs don't understand 'removable parts' of you. Anything that changes a human's natural outline is hard for a dog to understand. They know you look wrong, but they don't understand why.
So how do you help your anxious dog relax? There are several different ways to do it. You can desensitize them to what they are afraid of. Let them sniff the hat or the vacuum. Allow them to get used to those things when they are off before turning them (or putting them) on. Check out counterconditioning and desensitization training techniques. Try essential oils or calming treats. Massage is effective on many dogs, as is playing music. Many pet owners put their pets on medications, but some of us see that as a last resort.
You may have to try a few different alternatives, but chances are you will find a couple that work on calming your fur baby.
