With Bill Belichick Reportedly Out, These are the NFL Coaches With the Longest Tenure
The news cycle over the past 24 hours has brought a couple of major shakeups to the NFL, as both Bill Belichick and Pete Carroll are reportedly out as head coaches of the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks, respectively. The departures mark the end of an era, as both served as two of the longest-tenured coaches in the league.
Though the news has yet to be confirmed, The Athletic, the NFL Network, and ESPN have all cited unnamed sources in reporting that Belichick was parting ways with the Patriots after an impressive 24 seasons, During that time, the 71-year-old led the team to six Super Bowl titles and a record 31 playoff victories.
Meanwhile, Seahawks team owner Jody Allen confirmed the decision on Wednesday, explaining that it was made "after thoughtful meetings and careful consideration for the best interest of the franchise." However, Carroll will remain with the team in an unspecified advisory role.
"I want to make sure that that's clear as things have shifted so quickly in most people's perspective," Carroll said in a press conference. "It's been an honor and a thrill to be part of this program and I've loved every minute of it. You've watched me love it."
With both Belichick and Carroll reportedly out, the longest-tenured coach in the NFL now falls to Mike Tomlin of the Pittsburgh Steelers, who has been with the franchise for 17 years.
