Billy Porter Splits From Husband Adam Smith After 6 Years of Marriage
Billy Porter and Adam Smith have called it quits.
The couple, who wed in January 2017, have officially broken up, a rep for the Pose star told People on July 5.
"I can confirm that Billy Porter and his husband Adam Smith have made the sad decision to end their marriage after six years," Porter's rep Simon Hall said in a statement.
Hall continued, "The decision was an amicable and mutual one and was made after much consideration. They continue to love and support each other as they embark on this next chapter."
According to Hall, the couple does not plan to speak out further on their breakup, as he added, "There will be no further comment from either parties and it would be appreciated if their privacy be respected."
Porter and Smith first met in 2009 and dated for about a year before previously splitting. After five years apart, the twosome decided to give it another go, with Porter later proposing in December 2016.
Not long after, Porter and Smith married on January 14, 2017, at a penthouse in New York City.
At the time, Smith told Playbill that planning their nuptials in 10 days was "a whirlwind," adding, "But it all turned out more beautifully than I could ever imagine.”
As for why the short engagement? Smith explained to the outlet, “I think it was New Year’s Day, [Porter] said, ‘You know what? I think we need to get married before the 20th.' It was about making sure that we got this done under [Barack Obama's] administration."
