Billy Porter Wears a Striped Suit and the Most Extra Hat to the 2019 Emmys
Billy Porter has never met a red carpet that he didn't slay. At the Oscars, he stunned in a Christian Siriano tuxedo gown. For the Met Gala, he was carried in like Egyptian royalty. And the Tonys brought a custom evening suit by Celestino Couture. Suffice it to say, the stakes for the Emmys were high. Porter did not disappoint, channeling his Pose character Pray Tell in a Michael Kors Couture striped suit.
He accessorized the lewk with a dramatic hat and glittery purse. Porter walked the red carpet in honor of his first Emmy nomination in the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series category for Pose. The show is also nominated for Best Drama Series in the midst of its groundbreaking second season.
Porter's statement-making ensemble is also indicative of his history-making nomination. When news broke of the performer's nomination he took to Instagram to express gratitude for the recognition. He began his lengthy caption by writing:
"Thank you. All of you. My phones been buzzin’ off the hook. I am so overwhelmed with joy and gratitude. There was no context for this before....to be an openly gay black man nominated for a leading actor drama #EmmyAward - it just didn’t happen. And now, I’m living truth that it can be possible. It’s incredible to be recognized for the work. And then it goes much deeper. It’s about representation. It’s about all people’s stories being told. It’s about the art. We creative people have the power to transform hearts and minds doing the work that we do and I am just thrilled to be able to do that..."
