Blind Boy Teaches Sister to Use Brailler Because She Wants to Make Him a Birthday Card He Can Read

The sister wanted to learn and practice weeks ahead of his birthday.

A mother named Hilda Dunford shared the sweet moment her son taught his younger sister how to type in braille so she could write him a special card for his upcoming birthday.

In the video, her son, Ashton, also known as Ash, goes letter by letter through the alphabet with his little sister Ocean, explaining what combination of buttons to press down on the brailler to type out a word.

Ocean looks eager to learn and try it out herself, and by the end of the video, she already knows how to type out "happy birthday."

Dunford posted the video on TikTok, explaining a bit of the family's story in the caption.

First, she wrote that six-year-old Ocean has "grown up watching me add Braille labels around our house and practice reading Braille with Ash all of her life."

She said that recently Ocean asked to learn braille too so that she could do "something special" for her brother—write a birthday card

According to Dunford, her son's birthday isn't until Sept. 22, but Ocean hoped to practice before then.

Dunford opened up about her own emotions during the special moment, saying, "I was so proud and a little emotional watching her working so hard to learn how to Braille the words 'Happy Birthday' for her brother who is blind."

She continued, "Having a brother who is blind is teaching her that there are other ways to write letters for someone and sometimes you have to touch letters in order to read them. I love the lessons she is learning and also teaching others by taking the time to learn Braille for her brother."

People shared how much they loved the video in the comments, with many wishing Ash a happy birthday as well.

One person wrote, "This made me cry," while another commented, "They are so good together. You can see the love they have for each other."

Dunford also has an Instagram and Facebook where she talks more about her experience parenting Ash, Ocean, and her other daughter, Jordan
