Boone County's annual Heritage and Craft Festival marks 46 years. What to know
Boone County for more than 45 years has celebrated its history and multicultural heritage.
It is no different this year, which marks the 46th annual Heritage and Craft Festival from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 21-22 at Nifong Park, 3700 Ponderosa St.
The annual event is organized by Columbia Parks and Recreation and features multicultural entertainment from three stages, along with a handmade craft show where artisans and tradespeople will demonstrate "lost" trades and sell what is made.
One new feature this year is a showcase from City of Refuge clients, highlighting the arts and crafts of the county's refugee community. Festival attendees also can participate in activity on the history of quilt making and its importance to cultural heritage.
Live entertainment will come from performances of Native American music, Irish dance, Chinese dance, blues, folk and bluegrass, along with storytellers gracing the festival stage.
The park also is home to the Boone County History and Culture Center, 3801 Ponderosa St., which will be open and admission free. The 12,000-square-foot museum and art gallery has hundreds of items on display, in addition to featured exhibits. Three structures at the Village at Boone Junction also are available for visitors to the festival.
The event is sponsored by Columbia Convention and Visitors Bureau, Boone County History and Culture Center, KPLA 101.5 FM, KFRU 1400 AM, the Missouri Arts Council and the Columbia Missourian.
