#BoycottHomeDepot trending after co-founder says he would donate to President Trump's reelection campaign
Social media users are threatening to boycott Home Depot after its co-founder, Bernie Marcus, said that he would be donating to President Donald Trump's election campaign, for the second time.
Marcus, who previously donated a reported $7 million to Trump's 2016 campaign, according to the Center for Responsive Politics, retired from Home Depot in 2002. Despite his retiring 17 years ago, most of his wealth still comes from his stock in the home improvement store.
Speaking with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the store's first CEO said he admires Trump's "businessman's common-sense approach," but does not always agree with his politics.
"The truth is he has produced more than anybody else. He has. If we look at this country, I would say that we are better off today than we were eight years ago or six years ago," Marcus said.
However, plenty of people on social media were quick to disagree with the 90-year-old philanthropist and threatened to take their money elsewhere. Soon, #BoycottHomeDepot was trending on Twitter.
Thanks for the heads up on #BoycottHomeDepot! I am remodeling my kitchen and was getting ready to spend over $10,000 with Home Depot, not now! Going to Lowe’s or Menard’s instead. I would have been sick had I spent my money and then found this out!

If you plan on buying a hammer, wood, or ANY home improvement items from Home Depot, you may as well send donations DIRECTLY to trump's 2020 campaign.
No more, @HomeDepot.#BoycottHomeDepot

Others, however, were ready to defend Home Depot and its co-founder.
Greg Locke, a conservative preacher in Tennessee, shared a video outside his local Home Depot, which now has nearly 875,000 views.
Here’s what I think about the stupid #BoycottHomeDepot deal. GOD BLESS AMERICA!!! pic.twitter.com/APWQy1zyb6

"The left-liberal crowd has gone buck-wild crazy with their hashtag, 'Boycott Home Depot,' simply because the co-founder has decided to give his hard-earned money to the reelection campaign of Donald Trump," Locke said in the video. "Thank you Home Depot for your stand."
Many echoed his sentiments and said that they would be shopping at the store more because of Marcus' support of President Trump.
I love how liberals are trying to boycott a store we all know they never go to. 😂
The only liberals who shop at hardware stores are members of Antifa.#BoycottHomeDepot— Nick Adams (@NickAdamsinUSA) July 8, 2019
Liberal idiocy is on display once again as #BoycottHomeDepot trends on Twitter.
Home Depot Co-Founder Bernie Marcus, sold the company years ago, and has nothing to do with the day to day operations of HD.
Liberalism truly is a mental disorder?? 🙄 https://t.co/dps3ppvhnr— Dash Riprock 🇺🇸 (@PhilMcCrackin44) July 9, 2019
A spokesperson for Home Depot tells Yahoo Lifestyle, “Bernie retired from The Home Depot more than 15 years ago and isn’t speaking on behalf of the company. In fact, as a standard practice, the company does not endorse Presidential candidates.”
