Boygenius Accept Their First Grammy Awards in Matching Thom Browne Suits
Musical trio Boygenius have taken home their first Grammys after being nominated in several categories for 2024. The band composed of Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers, and Lucy Dacus already claimed wins in categories including Best Rock Performance for their song “Not Strong Enough” from their full length debut, The Record, and Best Alternative Album.
“Not Strong Enough” won over Foo Fighters’ “Rescued,” Olivia Rodrigo’s “Ballad of a Homeschooled Girl,” Queens of the Stone Age’s “Emotion Sickness,” and the Rolling Stones’ “Angry.”
Around 80 Grammys are awarded pre-broadcast, but the trio arrived at the red carpet in style, wearing matching white suits by Thom Browne with black ties and pink carnation boutonnieres. They left their hair down and were each wearing black patent leather dress shoes.
In addition to their wins, they are also nominated for Album of the Year, Best Engineered Album (Non-Classical), Record of the Year, and Best Alternative Music Performance for “Cool About It.”
Band member Bridgers has also won Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for her collaboration with SZA on SOS track “Ghost in the Machine.”
“Oh my God I want to throw up,” said Dacus in their first acceptance speech. “This isn’t real. Thank you.”
“Music saved my life,” Baker added. “Anyone can be in a band.”
Despite these declarations and their success at the Grammys this year, the group will be taking a pause.
On Thursday night, Boygenius announced at a during a secret show at The Smell, a Los Angeles venue, that they would be going on hiatus for the foreseeable future. A fan at the intimate concert shared footage to X, formerly known as Twitter, in which Dacus says, “This is our last show, and we're feeling it.”
Baker quickly corrected it was not the last show “ever.”
