Brace Yourselves: Bitter Cold Temperatures Are About to Take Over the U.S.
AccuWeather predicts a blast of cold air is about to lower temperatures across the country.
The East Coast could also experience "disruptive" snowfall.
The cold weather will continue through next week.
The calendar says it's still autumn, but apparently Mother Nature made other plans.
Much of the United States—including major cities in the central, eastern, and southern parts of the country—will experience bitter cold conditions beginning this week, AccuWeather reports.
After an unusually warm fall season, "punishing" blasts of arctic air are predicted to cause record-low temperatures and affect millions of people. This early preview of winter, which could make it feel more like January than November, is being ushered in by a storm system that will sweep across the U.S., avoiding only the West Coast. Even the South will feel the effects of the storm, with "widespread frosts and freezes" expected by Friday as temperatures dive below freezing.
Break out your snow shovels, because as the cold weather travels east it will also bring "disruptive snow" with it.
"This wintry mix could lead to slushy and slippery travel conditions, especially for Thursday morning’s commute," AccuWeather Meteorologist Mary Gilbert said.

The first flakes of the season will likely hit New England by the end of the week, while other regions may only experience freezing rain as the storm passes through.
But wait, it gets worse! Temperatures will average out over the weekend, only to drop even lower in the days following. "A direct shot from the Arctic" is headed towards the U.S. and the eastern two-thirds of the country could experience temperatures 10 to 20 degrees below normal for this time of year.
In other words, it's time to buy a new parka.
