Breastfeeding information to be offered at event
Jul. 30—Chi Chi Mama's Breastfeeding Support Group will participate in the World Breastfeeding Week celebration Saturday.
The event will be held from 10 a.m. to noon in the community room of the Joplin Public Library, 1901 E. 20th St. It is open to the public, including breastfeeding mothers and anyone who wants to support breastfeeding mothers.
Numerous groups will have displays and information to share including community health resources in the area. There also will be information available on environmental health and safety, Parents as Teachers, and the Joplin Health Department's Women, Infant and Children nutritional program.
Refreshments and door prizes will be offered.
Sponsors for the celebration are United Health Care, Home State Health, Healthy Blue and the Breastfeeding Coalition of Southwest Missouri.
The event theme is "Closing the Gap — Breastfeeding Support for All" as announced by the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action. That is a global network of people and organizations concerned with protecting, promoting and supporting breastfeeding worldwide.
Chi Chi Mama's is a Joplin WIC-affiliated group and is open to the community.
