Brett Hadley, ‘Young & The Restless’ Alum, Dead at 92
The Young & The Restless star Brett Hadley, who played Genoa City detective Carl Williams on and off on the hit series for over a decade, has passed away. He was 92.
The news comes from his friend, photographer Mary Ann Halpin, who shared the update with fans on Facebook yesterday, June 15. According to Halpin, who had been friends with the actor since she was 19 years old, he passed the day before, on June 14.
"It is with a heavy heart that I have to say goodbye to my sweet friend Brett Hadley," she wrote, sharing a series of memories with her late pal. "I will miss his playful and deep conversation, his funny flirty giggle and twinkling eyes. He took his last bow and gracefully left us yesterday."
A cause of death has not been revealed.
Hadley was born in Louisville, KY, in 1930. He studied drama at the University of New Mexico, but he didn't begin working on screen until the '70s, with a slew of guest roles.
He was seen in series like Room 222, The F.B.I., Ironside, Lucas Tanner, The Waltons, Kojak, and Marcus Welby, M.D., though fans are most likely to remember him for his turn as the police detective who disappeared from the series for several years before returning as an amnesiac going by Jim Bradley.
His final credit was in the 2015 short film Dreamcatchers.
Tributes for the actor have since poured in, with one fan writing on Twitter, "Rest in Peace Brett. He was so believable as Chief Carl Williams. Another iconic actor / character from #YR. What a great era he was a part of."
Another chimed in, "I really liked him. I am glad he lived a long life."
