New brewery, restaurant now open in Lakewood Ranch

Within days of a Sarasota craft beer staple opening a new location with a full kitchen, another area brewery and restaurant has made its debut.

Inner Compass Brewing Company is now open in Lakewood Ranch at 10316 Technology Terrace. The brewery initially opened in Sanford outside Orlando in 2016 before closing amid the pandemic.

The Lakewood Ranch Inner Compass is owned by Robert Turner, also head brewer and a former owner of the Sanford location, his mother Susan Carrubba, and her husband Robert Carrubba. The Carrubbas are Lakewood Ranch residents, with Turner moving to the area after the Sanford location closed.

"We found a great piece of land about three years ago," Susan Carrubba said. "It’s 1.6 acres, on the lake back here and a business park. We bought the land and built ground-up construction.”

Inner Compass has 30 taps, which at least initially will consist mostly of craft beers from other Florida breweries but also feature some of their creations, including their signature Kan-Do K?lsch. For non-beer drinkers, it also offers wine and hard seltzer.

Inner Compass Brewing Company also serves food including pizzas, burgers and other handhelds.

The brewery also features a menu of "high-quality bar food" including a variety of Angus burgers (with a non-meat option) and other handhelds, pizzas (with a gluten-free option), chicken wings and salads. There is also a kids menu, with the brewery designed to be both child and dog-friendly.

The 7,500-square-foot interior seats about 157 people and includes a 2,500-square-foot brewhouse and 3,000-square-foot taproom with arcade games, shuffleboard and TVs, as well as an event room that can be rented. Patio seating for about 36 people is also available outside along with games such as cornhole and Giant Jenga, a dog park and a kids area.

The brewery joins a local craft beer scene that also includes new locations for Sarasota's Big Top Brewing Company, which opened in early June as well in Fruitville Commons, and Calusa Brewing, which opened in November in White Buffalo Saloon's former space. (Punta Gorda brewery Fat Point Brewing also opened last year in University Town Center, but has already closed.) It also joins a list of Lakewood Ranch breweries including 3 Car Garage Brewing, Big Top Brewers Collective, and Good Liquid Brewing Company in Lakewood Ranch's Sarasota County development Waterside Place.

Inner Compass Brewing Company will be open 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Friday-Saturday, and 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Sunday. For more information, call 941-900-1102 or visit innercompassbrewingcompany.com.
