Bride claims bridesmaid was trying to outshine her by showing off her pregnant belly in wedding photos
A woman who recently got married believed that one of her bridesmaids was trying to make the day about her by showcasing her pregnant belly during the wedding photos. After confronting her bridesmaid, she claims she hasn’t heard from her friend since. Now she’s asking the internet, “Am I the a**hole?”

Posted on Reddit’s “Am I the A**hole” subreddit, the bride reached out to anonymous users to ask if she was in the wrong after an incident that occurred on her wedding day.
“I got married three weeks ago and one of my bridesmaids is about 7 months pregnant (let’s call her Kate),” she wrote. “Kate’s belly was easily accommodated into the dress style because it had quite a flowy skirt with a fitted bust.
“Between the ceremony and reception, we had a few hours’ worth of professional photos taken with just the wedding party. In one of the first photos I noticed Kate was deliberately holding her belly so it was really obvious in the fabric of her dress (think basically every maternity shoot photo ever taken). I asked her to stop holding her hands to show off her belly and to just pose like everyone else. I had to remind her a few more times before we’d finished taking the wedding party photos.”
After spending a week on honeymoon, the bride returned home to realize she hadn’t heard from “Kate,” despite texting her and typically speaking with her every couple of days, since the wedding.
“Another [one] of my bridesmaids confirmed that Kate is pissed at me because I was ‘trying to make her look fat, not pregnant’ during the photos,” she shared.
“Now I’m annoyed because I paid a lot of money for a wedding photo shoot, not maternity pics. But I don’t know, am I the [a**hole]?”
“Those are your wedding photos, and there is absolutely no reason someone should be deliberately showing off their ‘baby bump’ to take away from the bride in a photo,” one person responded. “If she didn’t feel comfortable in the dress, she could have opted out of being in the wedding.”
“It is weird she read it as you wanted her to look ‘fat instead of pregnant’ when clearly you just didn’t want her to be [the] focus … in your expensive photos but it sounds like she was self-conscious about how she looked,” another person commented.
However, others did side with the pregnant bridesmaid.
“I agree with everybody that it’s your wedding and ultimately it’s about having the pictures you want, but it seems like you’re not very sympathetic to your friend here, and that’s why I think you’re the [a**hole] on this one. Not a major a**hole, or even an a**hole in general, but I do think your friend is right to be upset,” one shared.
Another sounded off, “Did you call Kate out in front of everyone for posing like this? If she’s already feeling self-conscious about how she looks in the dress you chose for her and then you call her out publicly, you’re really being a bridezilla.”
