Bride looking to cut costs plans entire wedding buying only items from Amazon
A new bride figured out the perfect way to save on her big day by deciding to order everything — from decorations to her wedding dress — on Amazon, spending less than $4,000 for the entire affair.
Ashley and Tre Hicks were married on June 8 in Raleigh, N.C. The pair began pre-marital counseling back in November to think about what they wanted — and decided that they didn’t want to start their new life going into debt.
“When I first came to him with the wedding that I wanted, and the budget that I wanted, he looked at me like I’m crazy, so I thought I had to figure out something,” Ashley tells Yahoo Lifestyle.
The couple only had a few months to plan, and they reached out to a wedding planner, Natalie Duncan, who suggested using Amazon as a way to get lots of options and quick delivery. Ashley described some of the many items she picked, which included bridal shower dresses, gifts, jewelry, and most importantly, her own wedding dress.
“Pretty much everything came from Amazon, except, like, food and the groomsmen’s suits,” she says.
When it came to picking out her dress, the newlywed tells Yahoo Lifestyle that she was on Amazon “pretty much every day” looking through options, especially after going to fancier stores, and realizing there were very similar dresses available online for less.
She gushed over the final product — a $100 purchase — in which the lace, underskirt, shape and body were all “perfect.”
“The quality was definitely really good, and it had a cute little train to it as well, so I was happy,” she tells Yahoo Lifestyle. “You wouldn’t think it was a cheap dress!”
But the part she was most impressed about was how easy it was to customize.
“I tried on $1,000 dresses, tried on $1,500 dresses, $2,000 dresses,” she says. But when she shopped online, the Amazon vendor asked for her measurements before hand to get it custom made — at no extra price.
The only difference in customizing was that instead of “two days Amazon Prime shipping, it would take two weeks to deliver.”
According to Ashley, the key to successful shopping on Amazon is to research reviews and follow size charts carefully to account for people of different shapes and sizes.
“You can customize and get what you want,” she says. “Amazon is amazing!”
