Is a 'Bridesmaids' Sequel in the Works?

'Bridesmaids'

If you've been holding *on for one more* Bridesmaids movie, you might want to let go. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kristen Wiig, who co-wrote the screenplay and played Annie Walker in the film, is "decidedly uninterested" in a followup to the 2011 comedy.

"That story had an end, and it’s so beloved to me for 10 million reasons, and I think it’s OK to just have it exist in the world as it is," the Palm Royale star told THR.

While Wiig has seemingly shut down the possibility of a sequel, her former Bridesmaids co-star Melissa McCarthy has expressed interest in a second movie. Speaking to PEOPLE in 2023, the actress said that even if the cast were "all in our nineties and [writers] Kristen [Wiig] and Annie [Mumolo] are like, 'Should we team back up?' I'd be like, 'Yes. Yeah, we should.'"

Back in 2018, Rose Byrne told Parade that there was no talk of a Bridesmaids reunion. "I think it’s just going to have to hold up on its own," she said at the time. "It’s funny because people still do stop me on the street because they love the movie." However, Byrne told PEOPLE in 2023 that “of course” she'd make a sequel. “If all the girls were in, I absolutely would," she said. Though Byrne noted, "It’s a hard act to follow because the first film was so great."

Will there be a Bridesmaids 2?

Don't get your hopes up! Wiig told The Hollywood Reporter in 2024 that there has "never been a conversation" about it and that the "story had an end."

What could happen in Bridesmaids 2?

During an interview with Drew Barrymore, Paul Feig, who directed Bridesmaids, admitted that a Bridesmaids 2 "would be fun," but pointed out, "Why we love that movie so much is about Kristen Wiig’s character going through the fire and kind of repairing herself. So then, does she go through the fire again and fall apart again, or we just have a crazy wedding?”

"Maybe it's [Wiig's character's] turn to get married," Barrymore suggested, to which Feig replied, "Well, there you go."
