Brie Larson's Beautiful Red Gown Has a Hidden Message
You can add Brie Larson to the list of celebrities who wore red in support of Wednesday’s “A Day Without a Woman” strike, organized by the folks at the Women’s March in conjunction with International Women’s Day. Women across the country sported red in solidarity of the strike, in which not everyone could actively participate.
The Kong: Skull Island star took a turn at the film’s premiere in Hollywood Wednesday evening in a dress perfect for the day. For the occasion, stylist Cristina Ehrlich outfitted Larson in a red Oscar de la Renta dress with a crisscross neckline and a pencil silhouette that stopped just above her ankles. Black pointed toe ankle strap pumps and a bun with a dramatic side-swept wave completed her look.
Ehrlich posted a close-up of the dress’s material to Instagram, noting that there was “no better day” to wear it.

Larson has been outspoken on women’s issues and recently made headlines when she opted not to clap for Casey Affleck, who is the subject of sexual harassment allegations, when she presented him with his Oscar for Best Actor. Larson was similarly unimpressed weeks before at the Golden Globes, when she announced Affleck’s win for Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama. It came as little surprise that she would be disappointed — she starred in a movie about sexual assault and works as an advocate for survivors. So Larson’s show of support for “A Day Without a Woman” is perfectly on brand for her.
