BRIMFIELD — Brimfield Antique Flea Market attendees began to dig through unique antiques in white tents Tuesday. The market spreads out each year across miles of fields.

The market is open for its July show until Sunday.

The flea market is one of America's oldest outdoor flea markets. People flock to Brimfield for antique-hunting three times a year — it runs for a week each in May, July and September.

The Brimfield Flea Market comprises smaller markets, also known as show fields, hosted by different vendors. This year 21 independent shows are hosting hundreds of dealers. All shows offer a range of antiques and collectible items.

Most of the fields throughout the event open at sunrise: Collins' Apple Barn, Grand Truck Antique Green Acres, Mahogany Ridge, Quaker Acres, Shelton Antique Shows, Stephen's Place and Sturtevant's.

Midway and Central Park Antiques Shows open at 6 a.m. each day through Saturday. NE Motel Antique Shows has a $5 opening day admission fee and is open Wednesday through Sunday at 6 a.m. The rest of the schedule:

  • Brimfield Auction Acres — $5 admission, open Tuesday, Friday and Saturday at 8 a.m.

  • Heart-O-The-Mart — Open Wednesday through Sunday at 9 a.m.

  • Hertans-Brimfield Antique Shows — Opening Day has a $5 admission, noon Wednesday through Friday, 8 a.m. Saturday and Sunday

  • May's Antique Market — Thursday through Saturday at 9 a.m.
