Britney Spears' Husband Sam Asghari Speaks Out After Filing for Divorce
Sam Asghari doesn't want his divorce from Britney Spears to get "Toxic."
On August 17, the model, 29, spoke out about his decision to file for divorce from the "Circus" singer. In a statement posted to his Instagram Story, Asghari shared that "after six years of love and commitment to each other" he and Spears have "decided to end our journey together."
He continued, "We will hold onto the love and respect we have for each other and I wish her the best always."
The Dollface actor, who starred in Spears' 2016 music video for "Slumber Party," appeared to address the recent reports about the state of their marriage, as he also added: "S--t happens. Asking for privacy seems rediculous [sic] so I will just ask for everyone including the media to be kind and thoughtful."
This update comes shortly after it was confirmed that Asghari filed for divorce from Spears, who he wed in an intimate ceremony in June 2022. It's said the fitness trainor cited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for his split from the chart topper, 41.
According to the Associated Press, the divorce filing also listed the duo's separation date as July 28.
This is Spears' third marriage, as she was previously wed to childhood friend Jason Alexander—the marriage was infamously annulled 55 hours after their Las Vegas elopement in 2004—and to dancer Kevin Federline, who is the father to her sons, Jayden, 16, and Sean Preston, 17.
Spears and Federline, who wed in 2004, eventually divorced in 2007.
The "Womanizer" artist has yet to publicly address the breakup.
