Britney Spears Says She Didn’t Mean to 'Offend' Anyone With Book Release

Britney Spears

Britney Spears is sending out a PSA regarding the looming release of her new memoir, The Woman in Me, which she said was never supposed to offend anyone.

Despite the highly-anticipated book making headlines all week over its major bombshells regarding the pop star's ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake, her controversial 13-year conservatorship and more intimate parts of her life, Spears, 41, claimed in a new social media post that she had no intentions to "offend" anyone with her revelations.

"My book's purpose was not to offend anyone by any means !!!" she wrote via Instagram on Friday, Oct. 20. "That was me then...that is in the past!!!"

"I don't like the headlines I am reading," she continued, while adding, "That's exactly why I quit the business 4 years ago!!!"

The "Circus" songstress—who recently shocked the world with an excerpt of her book that revealed she was once pregnant by Timberlake, 42, and ended up having an abortion—went on to point out that most of the contents of her book are from "20 years ago."

"I have moved on and it's a beautiful clean slate from here," she asserted. "I am here to establish it that way for the rest of my entire life!!!"

Insisting that The Woman in Me was a book she "didn't know needed to be written," Spears claimed that the writing process has given her "closure," and that she's ready to move on to a "better future."

Plus, she said she hopes that her story can "enlighten people who feel particularly alone in most cases or hurt or misunderstood."

"Again," she repeated, "my motive for this book was not to harp on my past experiences which is what the press is doing and it's dumb and silly!!!"

"I have since moved on since then," she concluded.

But even if Spears is ready to look forward to the future, her fans are definitely still curious to read more about her tumultuous history, including her thought process behind her infamous 2007 head-shaving moment, and her feelings toward that interview with Diane Sawyer in 2003, both of which are said to be covered in the book.

The Woman in Me is expected to hit bookshelves on Tuesday, Oct. 24.
