Britney Spears' Sister Jamie Lynn Reflects on Their 'Hard' Feud
Jamie Lynn Spears became overcome with emotion while candidly speaking about her relationship with older sister Britney Spears.
While interviewing Jamie Lynn, Variety's Marc Malkin mentioned that in her book, the 32-year-old says she did everything she could to protect her sister, but sometimes felt like it was done in vain.
"Your sister now said she visited you on set. Where are you now with your sister?" he asked, in reference to Britney's Instagram post from June 20, which read, "It was nice to visit my sister on set last week!!! I've missed you guys so much !!! Loyal girls stay home but it's so nice to visit family."
Jamie Lynn responded, "I mean, I have nothing but absolute love for every single one of my family members. If I learned anything from last year, being so open and feeling like I had to defend myself at times, I don't feel like there’s anything else that I need to say. I just have to leave it where it is because those conversations are meant to be personal. All I can focus on now is my girls, my husband and the work that I'm doing."
Later in the interview, Malkin asked, "How do you keep that head on your shoulders, because like you said, last year was tough?"
Jamie Lynn responded while tearing up, "It makes me sad." She explained, "I don't want my daughter to feel that way. So I have to say I will absolutely not allow my children—especially my oldest daughter, who was very affected by all of it—I will not allow her to feel this way in her life."
The Zoey 101 star continued, "My strength is out of the love for my children and wanting to make sure that I don’t give way to anything other than what I know to be authentic and true—even if it's hard on those days. It was hard, but I feel like at the end of the day, look where I am now. It just makes me sad when I think about my kids because I don't ever want them to feel the pain or scrutiny."
Jamie Lynn then explained that she has been protecting her oldest daughter Maddie by not allowing her to have her own social media page.
The Sweet Magnolias star had previously been estranged from her sister for nearly two years. In July 2021, four months before her conservatorship ended, Britney expressed that she was not pleased with Jamie Lynn performing a medley of her songs at the Radio Disney Music Awards in 2017, writing, "I don't like that my sister showed up at an awards show and performed MY SONGS to remixes !!!!! My so-called support system hurt me deeply !!"
Then, after seeing Jamie Lynn's interview with Good Morning America promoting her memoir, Spears shared her reaction in a now-deleted tweet. She wrote, "I know it may sound like a silly thing to most people, but I wrote a lot of my songs, and my sister was the baby. She never had to work for anything. Everything was always given to her!!!"
Britney added, "She was never around me much 15 years ago at that time .... so why are they even talking about that unless she wants to sell a book at my expense?"
