Brittany Mahomes cleared up some confusion about her youngest child's real name during a recent TV appearance.
The wife of Patrick Mahomes, the quarterback of the Kansas City Chiefs, appeared as a guest on Kelly Clarkson's talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show, to talk about the NFL playoffs and dealing with children's allergies.
At the start of her visit to the popular TV program, Brittany recounted an incident with her son that led the family to visit the emergency room, but before that, she had a little clarification to share.
As she started the story, the 28-year-old said, "My second child, Patrick Mahomes III—I have to say his real name or his dad will get mad. His name is Patrick [and] we call him Bronze." Her son shares his name with his father and grandfather, but he also has a unique little nickname.
While on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Brittany went on to talk about dealing with children's allergies, noting that her daughter, Sterling, had an allergic reaction to milk when she was very young.
So after Bronze was born, she and Patrick were very cautious about introducing him to different foods. Through one tense situation, they discovered that Bronze is allergic to peanuts, leading Brittany to partner with AUVI-Q, an epinephrine manufacturer.
As for Bronze's nickname, the couple introduced it at the same time as they announced his legal name, sharing a photo of the newborn's little legs and a chain that said "Bronze."
Patrick revealed how it came about, saying in a press conference shortly after his birth, via TMZ, "My brother Jackson [Mahomes], whenever we were trying to find something that was a little unique and different, he said, ‘What about Bronze? It fits perfectly with Sterling.’ So, we went with that."
"It works out well," the Kansas City Chiefs football player went on. "He can have his own thing now where he's not Patrick, he's Bronze, even though he's Patrick. And, Sterling and Bronze can have that connection moving forward."
While Bronze is the newest addition to the family, the couple welcomed daughter Sterling in February 2021, just over a year before Brittany and Patrick got married in Hawaii in March 2022.
