Bryce Dallas Howard Sends a Coy Message About 'Argylle' Taylor Swift Fan Theory

On Feb. 2, the highly-anticipated film Argylle hits theaters. The spy-action-comedy flick stars Bryce Dallas Howard—and recently, the actress helped dispel a popular fan theory involving Taylor Swift.

Argylle is based on a book of the same name written by Elly Conway. Henry Cavill portrays the titular character, a super-spy written by Conway, whom Howard portrays. The movie also stars John Cena, Dua Lipa, Sam Rockwell, Ariana DeBose, Richard E. Grant, Samuel L. Jackson, Bryan Cranston and Catherine O'Hara. Basically, it's a movie about a book whose author writes a story that comes to life.

Because Conway's character has a beloved pet cat (specifically, a Scottish Fold) who is unapologetically herself, some Swifties have speculated that Swift could be the real author behind Argylle—and that "Elly Conway" is a pseudonym for the pop superstar.

During the Friday, Jan. 26 episode of The Graham Norton Show, Howard addressed the fan theory. "We can’t pretend she was involved," the actress, 42, said of Swift, per the Daily Mail. "The reality is she was in many ways a great inspiration."

Howard continued: "She is a cat lady, she’s got this awesome backpack with a cat in that she walks around with, she loves a good argyle sweater, and there is a sort of unapologetic dorkiness about her. That’s a little bit like what my character is like."

This isn't the first time someone affiliated with Argylle has shut down Swift-related rumors. Earlier in January, director Matthew Vaughn denied that the "Is It Over Now?" songstress had anything to do with the book or movie.

"There is a real book…and it's a really good book. And there is an Elly Conway who wrote the book, but it's not Taylor Swift," Vaughn told Rolling Stone. "I did read the conspiracies and I was like, wow, they don't leave a stone unturned! But it's not Taylor Swift. She definitely didn't write the book."

Argylle hits theaters on Friday, Feb. 2.
